About The Madison Marathon

The 2016 Madison Marathon prides itself on providing an intimate race environment with 2,000 participants competing in the full marathon and 2,500 in the half marathon.  Races begin and end on Capitol Square and offer a picturesque tour of Madison and all of its lakes, rolling hills and scenery.

All participants receive free digital race photos, a long-sleeve technical running shirt, finisher medal, and a cold Michelob Ultra beer served at the finish line.

The original Madison Marathon was held from 1974 to 1983, organized locally by runners. The course went twice around Lake Monona to Olin Park. The Madison Marathon as we know it today started in 1994 as the Mad City Marathon by the Greater Madison Convention and Visitors Bureau. Madison Festivals has owned and managed the race since 2001. It was run as the Mad City Marathon from 2001 — 2006, reverting to the name Madison Marathon in 2007 and branching off into 2 event weekends in 2013.
